Right now, Biles said she is focusing on her mental well-being.

She told reporters she was not injured, but she “didn’t want to do go out and do something stupid and get hurt.”

“I’m not in the right headspace,” Biles said. “I’m not going to lose a medal for this country and for these girls. They worked too hard … it’s not worth it, especially when you have three amazing athletes who can step up.”

Biles said she was “frustrated” over how the event played out but was proud of her teammates for stepping up to secure the silver medal.

“We hope America still loves us,” Biles added.

The Alaskan native upset her teammate and defending champion Lilly King, who finished with a bronze medal.

“I was definitely racing for a medal. I knew I had it in me,” Jacoby said, according to the Associated Press. “I wasn’t really expecting a gold medal, so when I looked up and saw the scoreboard it was insane.”

Jacoby, from the small town of Seward, is the first Alaska swimmer to ever make the U.S. Olympic team.

“A lot of big-name swimmers come from big, powerhouse clubs,” Jacoby said. “Me coming from a small club, in a state with such a small population, really shows everyone that you can do it no matter where you’re from.”

Jacoby won with a time of 1:4.95 seconds. South Africa’s Tatjana Schoenmaker claimed the silver in 1:05.22, while King earned bronze in 1:05.54.

Jessica Paraatto and Delaney Schnell earned the U.S.’s first-ever medal in women’s synchronized diving 10-meter platform.

She said she was proud of her teammates for stepping up without her to earn a silver medal.

“For me, I’m proud for how the girls stepped up and did what they had to do,” she said. “I owe this to the girls, it has nothing to do with me. I am very proud of them.”

There were conflicting reports on whether Biles was out due to a medical or mental issue.

In an Instagram post Monday, Biles said she feels like “I have the weight of the world on my shoulders at times.”

“I think that Simone is the biggest story going into the Olympics, so this is just—it’s really, really devastating,” Raisman said in an interview with TODAY. “But I think it’s also just really important to think about how much pressure has been on her, and there’s only so much that someone can take. She’s human, and I think sometimes people forget that. And Simone, just like everyone else, is doing the best that she can.”
