The popular game, in which users have to guess a five-letter word and told if they have the correct letters by way of green and yellow grids, has exploded in popularity in a relatively short amount of time.

In October 2021, the game reportedly had only 90 users, with the game now being played by more than 2 million people across the word every day.

Each person may have their own strategy for how they can solve the word puzzle. Some may like to guess a five-letter word with as many vowels as possible straight away in order to help narrow down the options, whereas others may pick words with lots of commonly used consonants such as R, S, T or N.

The game’s own developer Josh Wardle even admitted he struggles occasionally to guess the daily brain teaser, but suggests people mix and max their tactics if they are finding them game difficult.

“I’m reluctant to tell anybody how they should play,” he previously told Newsweek. “I would encourage people to experiment with different ideas and to find their own [starting] words, rather than just sticking to the same proven tactics over and over again.”
