Wordle is a daily puzzle game in which players use a color-coded system to work out the correct five-letter word in six tries or less.

If a player has the right letter in the correct place the tile will turn green, when the letter is in the word but the wrong place it will turn yellow, and will be gray when not in the word.

Some Wordle puzzles leave players scratching their heads.

Software engineer Josh Wardle created Wordle and made the game available to the public in October 2021.

It quickly went from a modest player base of just 90 people to a global phenomenon with 45 million daily users.

In January this year, Wardle sold the game to The New York Times for an undisclosed seven-figure sum and has been hosted by the outlet since February.
