The game tries to help players by using a color-coded system: When a tile turns green the letter is in the word, yellow means it’s in the wrong place, and if it’s grey then it’s not in the word at all.
While this can be useful it doesn’t always make it obvious what the word could be, especially if certain letters repeat themselves in a word or there are several options for a final letter.
As such, Newsweek has put together some useful hints to assist players, and the answer to April 6’s Wordle is also available—simply scroll down to the bottom of the article to see what it is.
Wordle was originally created by software engineer Josh Wardle, who made it available to the public in October 2021, and it has reached a peak of over 45 million users a day after originally starting out with just 90 active players.
The game has become so popular that it has also inspired a number of other daily puzzles, such as music-based Heardle and the math-based Nerdle.
In January 2022, Wardle sold the game to The New York Times for an undisclosed seven-figure sum, and the puzzle moved over to the publication’s platform in February.
The graph below, provided by Statista, charts the rise of Wordle prior to its sale.
