The short trailer showed never-before-seen snippets of what is to come, with a voice-over by the main character Fushi who reveals his desire to live away from people and never interact with them again. The continuation of the anime adaptation of Yoshitaki Oima’s fantasy manga will have a different director and animation studio compared to the first season.

The first season of To Your Eternity was directed by Masahiko Murata and animated by Brain Base, but the following season will be in the care of Kiyoko Sayama, who was also involved in the direction of Skip Beat!. The director change is the only staff change from the previous season. The new studio involved in the project is Studio Drive, which was established in 2015 and handled the adaptation of the legendary Junji Ito horror title, Uzumaki.
The series continues the journey of Fushi, an immortal being created by a strange entity to collect various experiences. His journey begins as a white orb, which is capable of taking on the forms of beings and objects that stimulate it. The first season of To Your Eternity ran for 20 episodes in winter 2021, and the second season is set to arrive in Fall 2022.
Fans will be excited to see the return of Fushi after the dramatic and heart-rending conclusion to the first season. There are some clues regarding Fushi’s current outlook in the short announcement trailer, and it would appear that the immortal is facing wounds of the emotional kind.
The announcement of a change in director could be in reaction to the nature of the main character’s journey from here on out. The previous season ended with an interesting time-skip, in which a different-looking but familiar Fushi makes an appearance. Regardless of the motivations, this will bring a different tone to the series, as has happened to various other anime series before; however, To Your Eternity Fans may just be excited nonetheless.
