After being released to the public, Wordle became a social media phenomenon, and quickly developed a dedicated fan base. Part of the game’s beauty is its simplicity. Each day players are tasked with deducing a new five letter word, in six guesses or less. After each attempt the letters light up, letting the player know how accurate they were....

The game, which involves players from around the world, asks users to solve the puzzle by guessing a mystery five-letter word—in six tries or fewer. The puzzle refreshes each day, with a new word that needs to be worked out from scratch. Wordle tries to help users stumble across the correct word by using a color-coded system; each correct letter in a guess turns green, or yellow if it’s in the word but is currently in the wrong place, or gray if it is incorrect....

Even putting aside any comparisons of the game’s aesthetic, style, or atmosphere to similar concepts, XDefiant doesn’t seem to truly emphasize its own tone in practice.
